The Companies, The Contacts, The Conference
Long recognized as a hub for exciting and diverse new technologies, the Research Triangle is home to the nation's most exciting new generation of entrepreneurial companies. Start-ups like Red Hat, SciQuest.com, and Paradigm Genetics have commanded media and investor attention. With 1999 venture capital placements quadrupling to nearly $1 billion and IPO's queued up for the first half, 2000 promises to be an exceptionally profitable year for North Carolina entrepreneurs and their investors - adding steam to this already hot entrepreneurial economy.

Location of the world's most successful industrial research park and the new Centennial Campus, the Research Triangle is home to companies like Nortel Networks, Cisco Systems, IBM, Becton Dickinson, Glaxo Wellcome, Lucent Technologies and Ericsson. Three world class research universities - University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Duke University, N.C. State University - have produced industry leaders like SAS Institute, Quintiles, and Cree Research (as well as some pretty good basketball!). Combined, these universities and research corporations fuel an environment where innovative young entrepreneurs, a highly skilled workforce and a rich and affordable quality of life combine to make great things happen.

Meet the Future
Venture2000 continued CED's 16-year tradition of presenting the Southeast's best investment opportunities. The Triangle's remarkably diverse entrepreneurial sector spans many vertical and converging industries. From the Internet to health care, from software to genomics, from telecommunications to advanced materials, CED's annual venture conference presents investors with a quantity and range of high quality investment opportunities not available elsewhere in the U.S.

Between 35 and 40 companies were selected to present and exhibit at the conference, with Early Stage Company Presentations the afternoon of May 10 and the Main Session Presenters May 11. All companies exhibited on May 11.

Presenters
Thirty-five to 40 companies made 12-minute presentations and were available at company exhibits, networking events, and for private meetings throughout the conference.

Check out the Presenters page to review the companies that were selected to present.

Make Contact
Venture2000 was loaded with high gear networking opportunities; 800 investors, entrepreneurs and others involved in the entrepreneurial funding process attended in 1999. In addition to company presentations there was plenty of time for "one-on-ones" with entrepreneurs, investors, and key players in the investment and technology community during receptions, an investor-only golf outing, small group dinners, and workshops.
